if you’re in London 11 October… our own Jason File will be speaking

In Conversation…  A new series of intellectual enquiry hosted by the Yale Club of London at the Paul Mellon Centre for British Art

In Conversation: Dr Alice Prochaska and Jason File
About the inaugural event: For the inaugural event on Tuesday the 11th of October, we’re honoured to engage in conversation with Dr Alice Prochaska and Jason File.  Alice Prochaska, currently Principal, Somerville College, Oxford, where she received both her BA and DPhil, was University Librarian at Yale (2001-10).  Jason File, artist, lecturer in fine art, war crimes prosecutor, is a graduate of Yale College 1998 and Yale Law School 2004.  During a sabbatical from Yale, Alice undertook research on cultural restitution and the roots of modern approaches to international heritage and the ownership of cultural assets. Jason makes art from often neglected artefacts belonging to corporate, social or political environments in the hopes of revealing hidden aspects of our relationships with institutions and each other. We are extremely pleased to host two people whose combined years in residence at Yale total 17 and whose pursuits as archivist, artist, administrator and advocate connect so clearly with the identity and endeavour of the Paul Mellon Centre, who have kindly provided a venue for this series.
More information:
The series is open to alumni of Yale University and their guests.  Places are strictly limited, ensuring a high level and intimacy of discussion.  We encourage a range of difficult topics to be analysed, a diversity of ideas and perspectives to be freely expressed, and provocative questions to be asked. The overall feel is of an intense but amiable roundtable among equals of intellect and imagination. Participant numbers are kept small to ensure interactive and meaningful dialogue. The evening begins at 6pm with registration in the Ground Floor Reception Waiting Room, Paul Mellon Centre,  continues in the Centre’s recently refurbished 1st floor library, followed by light refreshment and concluding promptly at 8pm.
Register early to discover what the particular alchemy between Alice Prochaska and Jason File will yield and to explore with them how the lawyer-artist and researcher-archivist-curator respond to key questions of our time.

About In Conversation…
The Yale Club of London is very pleased to present the first in a new series of events, which has grown out of a request from members for more direct engagement with speakers who come to talk to the Club. ‘In Conversation…’ takes place three times a year. Each event is a stand-alone evening concentrating on an issue of contemporary relevance from the perspectives of those in attendance. Taken overall they form a series of intellectual enquiry concentrating on some of the major themes of our time: identity, ethics, aesthetics, etc.  Two experts from different but complementary disciplines come together with a moderator for a curated conversation lasting about half an hour then opening out to include all in attendance.  We hope the discussion is both theoretical and practical.
